On January 28, 2019, Dr. Omar L. Hamada, an OB/GYN who has delivered more than 2,500 babies, slams the New York abortion law on live on Fox News. This law allows abortion rights up until birth in many cases, saying that there is “absolutely no reason to kill a baby in the third trimester.” The “Reproductive Health Act” was passed last week, and the passing of the law in the Senate earned a standing ovation. USA Today reports, “The left may be celebrating the bill’s passage, but it is wildly out of step with American sentiment on the issue. American support for late-term abortion continues to decline; one poll last year found that a mere 13 percent of Americans support abortion all the way into the third trimester.” With the massive amount of controversy still going on today, Americans don’t take it too lightly when a law gets passed for abortion, especially when the law gets a standing ovation.

On February 5th, President Donald Trump gave his State of the Union address. One of the points he made criticized Governor Andrew Cuomo’s new Reproductive Health Act. Trump states, “Lawmakers in New York cheered with delight upon the passage of legislation that would allow a baby to be ripped from the mother’s womb moments before birth. These are living, feeling, beautiful babies who will never get the chance to share their love and dreams with the world. And then, we had the case of the governor of Virginia where he stated he would execute a baby after birth.” President Trump is slamming the Democrats and lawmakers in Congress by stating the ethical problems dealing with the Reproductive Health Act. Trump criticizes the Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam for the Governor’s statement that “he would execute a baby after birth.” After this, Trump makes a statement that brought the energy to the room with applause and shouting. He says, “To defend the dignity of every person, I am asking Congress to pass legislation to prohibit the late-term abortion of children who can feel pain in the mother’s womb.” The Republican party, Americans, and our President are attempting to pass laws to prohibit late term abortions, and they may do so successfully.
