Freshman Ryder Smith is a member of the House of Clement and an alum of Shafer Middle School. He is also the son of English Department Chair Jennifer Smith and the brother of Herald on the Hill editor Cade Smith. We asked Ryder some questions about the transition from public to private school and what he likes about JPII so far.

Herald: How is the transfer from public to private school?

Ryder: JPII is much better than my old school. It has a lot more clubs, sports fields, and activities. The teachers here are far better and more helpful.

Herald: Are the classes challenging? What’s different?

Ryder: The classes are definitely more challenging, especially with homework and tests.

Herald: What are your favorite classes so far? Any favorite teachers?

Ryder: So far my favorite classes are history and strength. My favorite teacher is probably Mr. Saboe.

Herald: Are you involved in any clubs or extracurriculars?

Ryder: I’m going to join track when it starts. There are so many options here, so we’ll see what happens in the future.

Herald: Outside of school, what do you like to do for fun?

Ryder: I like to hang out with friends, but I also have to manage time for school.

Herald: So far what has been your favorite part about JPII?

Ryder: My favorite part of JPII is lunch. I have plenty of time to get homework done and relax from the rigorous classes.
