Mr. Steve Cleek is the security office here at Pope John Paul II High School. Mr. Cleek is new this year, as JPII has upgraded on their security to keep the students safe.

Mr. Cleek is not at the school for a long time during the school day, but he is here in the mornings and in the afternoons every day. He comes in at about 7:00 a.m. and walks around outside on the lower tier of the parking lot. He makes sure everything is going okay and that nobody is speeding through the parking lot or doing something stupid. Then, he leaves at about 8:30 a.m. to go on with his day.

Mr. Cleek comes back at around 2:30 p.m. to watch over students who get let out at 3:10. He will again stand outside on the lower tier of the parking lot and then will head back inside when all the kids leave. Mr. Cleek will stay at the school until around 6:30 p.m. for the athletics that are in season and the kids have to wait a little longer for a ride home, making sure the kids are not getting into trouble. Then, once the kids leave, Mr. Cleek is able to go on his way.

Mr. Cleek was a metro police officer for over 20 years. He told the Herald, “I worked for the metro police department. I joined it right of college when I was 23.” Mr. Cleek started out in patrol and then went to child, physical and sexual abuse. After that, he went to homicide, and that is where they handle things such as rapes and robberies, which were very fascinating to him. Mr. Cleek was really happy being an officer, but he is now happy at Pope John Paul II High School.
