Pope John Paul II High School faculty and students recently celebrated mass in the school auditorium. The mass was very lovely, and the homily and service was incredible, but things took an unexpected turn during the closing song. The lights dimmed, and suddenly there was a faint clapping emerging from the front of the auditorium. The clapping then began to wave back through the auditorium, in sync with the beat of the music. Astonishingly, the music abruptly changed from a sullen Catholic hymn to the classic Baha Men hit “Who Let the Dogs Out?” Led by seniors Holden Carter and Kodong Ajak, students in the front, along with some faculty, jumped up on stage and started dancing while twirling glowsticks around. The auditorium erupted as students and staff all around began to dance wildly and sing along with the classic early aughts jock jam. Glowsticks were tossed into the crowd, and people began break dancing in the aisles. Mosh pits also formed, and ambulances rushed to the scene in case of emergency.  Even the faculty fell into the spell of the Baha Men, as English teacher Mr. Patton began to dance uncontrollably along with the music. “It just took me over,” Mr. Patton said later. “The rhythm was just too good to refuse.” Eventually Krazy Kyle ended the song, and students and teachers filed out to go to lunch. On his way out, senior Kellen Barham claimed, “Man, the dogs were loose.” Theology teacher Mr. Melcher agreed: “There was nothing we could do. The intoxicating rhythms of the Baha Men threw us into a frenzy!” Although it was chaotic, it’s clear that students, and even faculty, had a great time dancing to the beats of the Baha Men after mass.

Fantastic work. Only adjustment is it would’ve been funnier if the flash mob lasted all day. 9/10
