English Teacher Saves Mass

As students were discussing ash smearing and the excitement of Leah Mariscote’s upcoming announcement before mass on Wednesday, a hero was in our midst. Although Mr. Papendick had set only three chairs out for the four altar boys, luckily Mr. Patton rushed to the scene to help.

Sprinting across the gym to find a chair, Mr. Patton stumbled upon Mr. Papendick and asked for help. Mr. Papendick reportedly replied, “You’re on your own,” before running away.

Mr. Patton grabbed a chair from the Athletic Director office and proceeded to carry the chair across the gym during the pre-mass awkward silence. Finally, he placed the chair down gently next to the other altar boys’ chairs, as the whole school watched in awe.

Mass almost didn’t happen this week; however, thanks to the heroics of one English teacher, it did.
